The safety and efficacy of P11-4 in the treatment of initial caries were investigated in a recent clinical study. The additional effect of the application of P11-4 (Curodont Repair) was compared with the sole application of fluoride varnish (Duraphat) in active occlusal initial caries lesions on erupting permanent molars. At the 3- and 6-month follow-up examinations, the test group showed significantly superior regression of the lesions compared to the control group, both in the measurements of laser fluorescence and in the clinical assessment of caries stage and activity. No adverse events, medical complications or allergic reactions were reported in connection with the treatments. The clinical applicability of the treatment was considered satisfactory. Patients were pleased with the non-invasive caries treatments.
